From Monday, March 5th through Friday, March 9th, The ELMA Philanthropies is leading a media campaign to communicate the need for building the child health workforce in Africa.
Below, you will find suggested social media messages and images for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. These resources are designed to help you use social media to expand awareness of:
Building the Child Health Workforce
This campaign aims to spotlight Africa’s need for a strong network of child health workers across all cadres, including community healthcare workers, nurses, midwives, pediatricians, and subspecialists.
The African Pediatric Fellowship Program (The APFP)
In addition to building awareness about the child health workforce, this campaign will spotlight the APFP, an ELMA grantee. The APFP is Africa’s leading training program dedicated to building the pediatric workforce by training African pediatric doctors and post graduate nurses within Africa. To learn more about this critical program, visit theAPFP.org.
ELMA is asking those who share our commitment to improving child healthcare in Africa to join us in this social media effort.

Since it began in 2008, the APFP has trained 151 pediatricians, pediatric sub-specialists, and pediatric nurses from 13 countries across Africa. 98% have returned to their home countries, where they are using their leadership and expertise to develop new services, train doctors and nurses, conduct research, develop child health policies, and–most importantly–radically improve health outcomes for children.

The lack of qualified pediatric doctors and nurses in Africa is largely due to a shortage of training opportunities, which causes child-health professionals to seek training outside of their home countries and remain abroad to establish their medical practice, a phenomenon known as brain drain.
